If you want a pure strain of infusoria, try a visit to the local university. The biology departments often have one or more cultures of micro-organisms that can be cultured as fish food. Other options, which really are not the same as your request, is to use a green water culture or a nice big clump of java moss. Both contain microorganisms in large enough numbers to feed fry. For the java moss, put the clump in the fry tank and let them find their own food for a few days, then move up to larger foods. For green water, feed a few ounces per feeding of that really green water to the fry tank. The single celled algae are also a good fry food for very small fry.

you can buy live moss balls off of ebay - these contain infusoria - just pop them in with the fry to graze on . Or if you want to make your own:-

Put some old dry lettuce leaves in a glass jar and add boiling water, leave to cool and allow it to stew for a couple of days

Strain the liquid and throw away the lettuce leaves, you should be left with a very cloudy water:

Take some water from a pond or well established aquarium, draw the water from the ponds edge where there is normally a higher concentration of infusoria (you should be able to see some of the larger organisms in the collected water) and add it to your lettuce water

Make a hole in the centre of the lid and screw it on, place your culture in a fairly sunny position at room temperature

After about a week you should notice an increase in the larger sized organisms and the water should be clearing, at this point you can start to harvest your culture using a pipette, you can also now use your culture to seed a new one.

thanks for the suggestions people this is a really big help if there is any other suggestions
