i have just been trying to renew my policy and i cant seem to find a sub section for hobbies that include fishkeeping-aparrently you cover your caravan but not your tank??
im not going to open my mouth if i dont need to ,but then saying that it would be awful if i accidently smashed one of the tanks and it wasnt covered

advice would be great
shelagh xx

cause if it smashed and water went everywhere, is the carpets and stuff the water damages covered?

its more than just the tank when you think about it.. are the fish covered or are they under pet insurance?

its not the floor im having problems covering, its the tank itself
maybe they wouldnt even cover the floor if the tank got smashed

Its funny you should bring this up Shelagh, cos it was something I've been wondering about for a while.

Do I tell them I have all these tanks? If one happened to unload all over the place, would I be covered for the damage? Or do you just keep schtum and hope for the best?

Has anyone added theirs to their insurance?

I think you would probably be covered for your carpets and stuff.

maybe you need to take out specialist insurance?

if it exists that is! Someone must offer it.

The contents insurance here dosent cover my camera or shooting equipment(5k and 8k respectively! ) so I have to take out seperate polices for those!

i thought i would be able to sort it no problem, but no not a hope in hell, i have all my larger tanks downstairs and all in various rooms etc, but all the floors run into eachother (if that makes sense) and would cost at least £3000 to replace- can you imagine them saying get lost you didnt say there were tanks in there

my first thought was to keep quiet but then id be the one who the assesor wanted to call on

mariah carey has her legs insured, so im sure you could insure a fish tank..

hmmm.. what are you on??

Home Contents Insurance. I woulod have thought that a tank, being content in your home, would be covered.

Zurich Insurance will cover fishtanks i believe.

insurance companys are cons :sly:

we have insurance with one company, had it 6years, one day i fell over the rug and landed on the dining room chair, broke it, table n chairs were fricken costly, so i phoned company, told girl what happened, she yes no prob, tell me all the details,/what happened,table/chair details etc etc, then after i did all of that , she pipes up, oh sorry sir you insurance only covers electrical goods,,

when i took it out by phone told them i lived in a flat and only needed full contents insurance, so thats full contents<only bloomin electricals

knowing most insurance companies (like I dont ;) )

you're probably covered upto a certain amount - for example a goldfish bowl

best to tell them if you hold a serious amount of water, IMO
