Well 2 of the female guppy's i got yesterday dropped fry within 10 minutes of me getting them home i've spent most of last night and this morning fishin in the tank for fry the females have stopped delivering them and i gave up counting once i got to 15 ! lol

The only thing is that they somehow keep escaping the breeding trap ! It's one of the plastic ones with the grid on the bottom and you can put the plastic bit over the top to stop them escaping (which keeps failing miserably !)

Anyone got any idea on how i can stop them escaping i've looked and can't see anyway on how they're getting out i've pushed the bit down so it's flat against the grids but they seem to be wee houdini's ! lol

Also is it possible to determine at a young age which will be male and female ? Some of them are really dark in colour whilst the others all i can see is there eyes !

Sis is on way with her big paprazzi camera so hopefully get some decent pics soon !

always found that plastic breeding cages have the slits in which are 2 wide i had them in the past and had same problems they some how mange 2 wriggle out of the slits.... the netted mesh type 1's are far better they wont do a houdini act :) as for sex at fry age u wont be able 2 tell the sex..... colour has no relevence at that age wotsover if i remeber rite (been a while since kept livebearers lol)

hope that helped :)

hi i used a breeders net but the netting on in is no good they could escape from mine, i put tights over mine as the holes are much smaller but still allows for good air flow

could i put a tight or stocking over my plastic one at the moment til i can get one ? Found anothe 6 "houdini's" in the tank but my hands are like prunes from tryin to catch the wee buggers ! lol :D

i cant see why not but i would get a net asap as this would be better for oxygen flow. but if you get a net i would advise still to put tights on instead as the holes on the netting are to big and they still escape thats what i have done with mine. if you tie the legs on the tights in a not but do this at the crotch of the tights, then cut the legs off so you are just left with the crotch. also make sure you thoroughly rinse them off first.

I have had the same houdini experience with mine. I finally did the right thing with my breeding trap and retired it. Now I use very large clumps of java moss so the fry can easily escape the adults and leave the little houdinis to escape them instead.
