Wondering... If I do a water change, sould I adjust the new water temperature with water from the hot water system?
Just curious `cause I know that the system often leves oxides & copper in in the water. (Everyone says you should only drink water from the COLD tap!)
Does water conditioner/salts deal with this? are these elements harmless to fish? Should I boil water in a kettle/on the stove from the cold tap to adjust temperature?

It really depends on how high the levels are in the tap water. Most people say to add water thats the same temperature as the aquarium water which really isn't that hot at all. Adding very hot water would shock the fish too much.

I usually add a bit from the kettle to my bucket of cold water. I always keep a mercury thermometer on the sink shelf for the purpose.

>>> system often leves oxides & copper

A bigger problem in soft acidic water areas. In hard water areas, the inside of pipes/tanks etc., invariably has a limescale coating. Traces of Copper are actually tolerated quite well by fish, however marine systems with inverts would be wiped out by even very tiny amounts.

I believe you shouldn't use hot water from the tap, but hot water from the kettle, diluted to the right temp with cold + dechlorinator before use.

Why not just use the temp of water that matches your tank? That way you don't have to worry weather or not your conditioner can handle them. Saves the hassle of boiling too. I know one of my conditioners that I used to use doen't take care of everything. Good Luck,
Ron

I'm with Alien Anna on this one, though I must admit I don't have a thermometer. I tend to use my judgement, erring on the cool side rather than the warm.
