Hospital Tank

wondering what an ok size would be for a hospital tank. i have danios, platies and will be getting a betta after new years. need it to be small as i dont have a lot of room. what is the smallest size tank i can use for these fish safely?

i bought a plastic tank from wilkinsons to raise fry in thats 11 litres if i remember right... with fish that small i shouldnt see why you couldnt use one of these as long as its not for too long. it only cost about £5 but will need a small 25w heater and mature filter for obvious reasons. just put a small sponge filter in your main tank run from an air pump this way once the filter is mature it stays mature and can be quickly removed to the hospital tank in seconds

ok so i can do say a 5 gal. have a heater for it and maybe a small sponge filter that i can put media in from my established tank?

For your sponge filter, just keep it in your established tank, that way it will always be cycled when you need it. Just take it out of the established tank and pop it into the hospital tank when you need to use it. You wouldn't need a large sponge filter for a 5 gallon, and it won't do any harm in your established tank when not in use.

You can, but I have no idea how to do it. Truth be told, you can probably buy them for the same as it would to make it. Drsfosterandsmith.com has them for around $6.00. Here is the link for it http/www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=21425, the smallest one would be fine for a 5 gallon tank. The only other thing is you would need to buy eithor a powerhead or a pump for it, in a 5 gallon I would go with a pump. But you would have to buy that anyway even if you made it yourself.

Yep if you can do it, then that would be the way to go as you are essentially getting a pump and filter for $6.00. I believe they also have $5.99 flat rate shipping for the month of December, so if you are going to get it this month then now is also the time to stock up on other things ... $5.99 shipping no matter how much you buy (no code is needed for that).

man i wish i had a job too instead of just dh...just to get all the things i want for my fish now!! lol the kiddos may not like that though. i keep checking the classifieds and craigslist so hopefully soon...
