Hosanna Pond

The the Hosanna Pond survived their first 20°f freezing with flying colors this week.
It's not even winter yet. They can stand a lot but do keep an eye on those fish. For your pond ain't that deep which makes it easier to grab the cold.

3 Month Update:
No notable changes(Besides algae growth). Fish population seems stagnant. No sign of Hopediah though.

9 Month Update;

With the recent start of spring, I can see I have somewhere between 20 and 30 mosquito fish, as well as three Golden Top minnows; which I thought died out before winter. 😁

1 Year, 2 Months Update:
•Look at those numbers! Those are some happy mosquito fish if I ever saw any 😁
•I don't seem to have visible plans anymore. Think I'll get more free floating bacopa.

I’m curious about those Golden Top Minnows . Is that Fundulus chrysotus ? If so where did you get them ?
They sure are! I got them from eBay search the seller john796. If you're trying to add them to a pond or something outside, be sure to add them AFTER the plants and microfauna. They have some of the best eyesight of fish I've ever kept, and they will eat EVERYTHING.

The Fundulus chrysotus may have jumped out and that could be why you only have three left . How many did you start with ? Also they spawn into plants but also into the substrate . The mosquito fish probably ate the eggs in the plants but you might have fry if you look closely . They’re one of the native killifish that are somewhat easier to breed but seem to have a breeding season which is probably influenced by the change of seasons which you have in your outdoor set up . That’s pretty cool that you have those .

I'm not worried about their numbers, as they are just the predators of the mosquito fish fry. I might set up another tub just for them though. However I believe I started with six or so. If they didn't jump out, they likely died off due to their short lifespans. But you should get some if you're interested. Before winter comes

•I saw one frog, whom I thought to be Hopediah, dying on his back just outside the pond. Later, however, I noticed two new frogs spending time in the pond. Since I don't know who's who, EVERY frog is Hopediah now!
