so i went to wal-mart for my monthly save a fish yes i go to walmart to SAVE fish lmao
anyways always checkin their bettas since a month ago i saved leo a crowntail who well never moved whom now btw is in top health beautiful cheerie and NOt any more agressive than you average gourami member which is great as i come across this blue crowntail whom although moves more than leo once did has all his fins torn, ripped all black and grey you can tell he has a blue color just aint showin through one fin is stripped down to the cartlidge and on his right side a big chunk of him missing about the half the size of a pea although now infections on it yet also givin its walmart the container reeked of ammonia and looked like cloud water

so i broght him home set up a temp barrior in leos tank since know not if he himself is aggressive until i get his own ten gal or see if they both can play nice but anyways i digress my questions are after a milk salt bath and a light ich treatment

anything else i can do to help him speed along get his fins going nicly

he is in leos tank a ten us gallon with 70gph filtration 2 live plants large and 81F water

first make sure he is securely divided from the other male..then plenty of good food, and clean water are in order. make sure you check your ammonia for the first week everyday as now there is increased bioload..give the filte a chance to catch up...change water as necessary. lots of plants for hiding. a 10 minute dip in some aquarium salt (1tsp/gal) per day if you are worried about his wounds.
any signs of fuzz or redness in his sore spots/wounds? any appearance of ich? if not just keep the water clean...no need to medicate if he isnt showing signs of anything sinister clean water, good food and salt dips if you think it would be benneficial (which it probably would...wont do any harm anyway)
keep us updated :)any chance at a photo of him?
cheers!

i am a well seasoned fish keeper so after checking him there is no fuzz or pink/red sores/spots as for ich no signs of its visual stage however i did a light treatment to prevent it if any are present on him from the water he was in.

no pics however i have a video i just uploaded on my facebook shows him both at first and the end skip to those spots and you can see him in multiple views and sides

btw my divider is wavy and over hangs on leo's side no chance of him getting over it however he has taken interest in his lil injured buddy

i watched the vid link...he is in pretty beat up shape. but seems to be swimming about nicely. im sure hes glad to be out of that container.!!!
seems to me you are doing everything right. just keep an eye on the injured sites and do what you are doing in the meantime.
btw, your place looks like mine...tanks everywhere and homemade "hoods" using foil :)
i also always check the fishies at walmart. ive been doing so less and less because it depresses me. that is a lucky little fish!
best of luck with him. keep us updated
cheers

you know i wouldnt doubt that the walmart employees pin em up to fight or with other fish to fight and then put it out on display to die ... i mean i understand the cups at stores cuz its better than a thousand tanks but when they cant take care of them its not right further they only have 5-6 on display anyways thats feasible to get 3gallon tanks for em

at my walmart they have 1 betta in with some other fish

i have like bought out walmarts recent betta supply so they will be safe fresh in too so no walmart torture came over em

as for the wounded one well he is good now has some more of his longest fin left to heal but most part all others are good back to normal hes got them a lil twisted but after a while they should unravel now that they are healed oh and this one aint a nice one he is mean guess his kindness was from being injured.

my luck i found two males that can be housed togather never fight never flare.. part of the other bettas from walmart were two females both must be housed like most males cuz these ladies fight and flare and fight and flare then fight some more take a break fight again. lmao i know the males are males they just get along but these females think need be checked under their skirts

I wish I knew someone by me who could rescue bettas from Petco. Sometimes there are bettas that are so ill, but a few have such fight left in them that even with torn fins and very bad velvet they manage to hang in there even in such poor help, I wish I knew someone to help them I dont have room to betta rescue. I only own 1 female betta I rescued from walmart and she did an amazing recovery.

But on a note about your betta, do you think the water being so deep and with a current is tiring him out? He must still be weak from living in a cup so long, do you think he should be kept in a smaller tank until builds up more strength?

When I rescued my betta she was too weak to eat pellets, so I gave her bloodworms and brine shrimp, then eventually as she got stronger could swallow the pellets.

the girls can be as mean as the boys sometimes. depending on the size of the tank, get some more girls to spread out the aggression. and make sure there are places where they can get away from each other (like lots of plants or caves).
and do not be surprised if those boys do have it out one day. just a precautionary note.
any pics?
cheers
