Came back after the weekend to find 4 dead fish :-(

Did an water test and my ph had gone from a steady 2 months of 7.6 right upto 8.8 if not higher

Did a 90% water change, cleaned the filter inside the pump, algae off the tank etc and that's got it back down to 7.6

Apart from ph everything else was normal, zero nitrite and nitrate and zero ammonia

Could it be the temperature that's helped with the whole thing? As my tanks in the conservatory and it's red hot in there

what was the temperature of the tank in the middle of Sunday?

My tank was at 28c yesterday, so I presume any tank in a conservatory would have been much hotter. Could well have been the temp. during the weekend that killed them.

also, what is the surface agitation like from the filter? The hotter the temp., the less oxygen that will be held in the water.

My thermometer only goes upto 30 and it's been off the scale a few times. Had to leave the lid off constantly as my lids black and just attracts heat!

Iv got my nozzle facing towards the surface about an inch from the surface so it breaks the water up quite a bit, got bubbles going a good 3/4 of the way across the back of the tank from right to left before they go

then I'm going to go with heat as the cause of death. It could be much higher than 30c, given we had 26c-29c temps. stated (which are always taken in the shade), in a conservatory, especially if there was no ventilation whilst you were away.

this is one of the reasons why a conservatory is a poor location for an aquarium. You'll also have a heater working overtime to heat the tank in the winter.

I was expecting the tetras to be the ones that died as they are supposed to be quite fragile but it was only 1 diamond tetra and 3 harlequins

Guppies are still swimming about asif nothing's happened, hard as nails the guppies like

Yeah I'm starting to regret having it in the conservatory, algae is ten times worse aswell with the 14 hours of day light each day!

Roll on winter lol

Sorry to hear of your losses ....sounds like a total re-arranging of the house and relocation of the tank could save you a lot of forthcoming work there!!

Yep i agree with JDs4me. Move the aquarium from the conservatory to a cooler place in your home.

Dean.

yer i agree i would defo move the tank. will save a lot of time and cleaning
