Horrible Lfs!

that is discusting how could you do something like that

I think the idea of the cell/mobile phone video camara is a splendid idea. Ipersonally would send a likeminded friend in to to do the work, seeing as they know they can't impress you.
A store like that needs bringing down. Either that or that guy wants to know how the fish feel. Back ally... And so on

any outlet that is set with in garden centers are regulated by the center itself it must show standards that the center requires in order to maintain a good reputation and keep customers coming in thru the door. anything like this should be reported to the actual center manager then he/she can communicate with the manager of the fish outlet to improve what is currently wrong or better still sack the childish sod that obviously spends his spare time pulling wings off daddy longlegs.

What makes it worse is there is nothing we can do to stop it Grrrrrrr

Ahem? Don't go there! And ring up the freakin RSPCA. It annoys me so bad - people in Aus get away with doing the most awful things to frogs and toads. If it isn't fluffy and warm-blooded it seems like nobody cares.
Thank god there's nothing like that going on near me. Was the assistant some dumb clueless kid? Pretty sad that they have nothing better to do for amusement than watch beautiful fish shredding each other.

But I have to admit I'm guilty of the whole OMIGOD! Abused fish! Must rescue!
I got a platy from a fish-abusing chain store two weeks ago. She's only a baby, HOT little juvenile. Some idiot put her in a tank full of aggressive large swordtails. She's in pretty bad shape and now refusing to eat, I have posts in the emergency section. I'm trying to nurse her back to health but I still don't know if I'm winning the fight.

i was gonna say Porton seemed like a good enough place....what is it with some people though...if it isn't fluffy and cute they don't give a damn....

And secondly, bettas don't fight to the death, usually only until one gives up. So the guy there REEEEEEALLY did not know what he was talking about.

in the wild bettas rarely fight to the death, just to assess dominance. when one is beaten it swims away and leaves the territory to the victor, but in an enclosed space like a small tank, there is no where to swim away to and the victor will not leave the loser alone until they leave and so it lasts until one of them is dead. and unfortunately it usually results in BOTH fish dying as the winner will still be badly injured. :-(

i don't think its a good idea to get a video of the guy getting them to fight. as they would still suffer, but maybe get someone to record him offering to put them together for a fight? surely intent to cause cruelty to animals counts? :grr:

Unfortunately this evidence will not be allowed as you are no longer allowed to record with video or voice and use it without permission, they could infact turn around and take you to court for it, it sucks but its the law - well in the UK any ways as for the US law i am a bit fuzzy
