Only just got into Bettas but did read up on them a bit first, I have 2 Males in there own tanks and 2 females in the community only thing is the females were quite a bit smaller with not much colour a few weeks ago and looked very natural one light with brown stripes and one darker with brown stripes but no colouring as such, Few weeks on the bodies are still plain looking but fins have developed red/blue/purple colouring and one has started to get a greenish sheen down her side, is this normal with females the VT ones i have seen are all generally strong coloured red or blue not natural browns.

I will get a few pics up later when i get home and see if anyone can help a bit better, i know its hard ID anything without a pic

It could be a cross-chain with their genes. If you got them from your LFS, thy tend to has a mish-mash of females together.

The hybrid ones are the colorful types. So, unless you got them specifically from a known breeder, then it is a hit and miss.

Love to see the pics though.

Ok few pics, first two are one of my girls the other ones are blurry because i have a crap camera and she wasnt in a photo mood.

Hope these help

all the female bettas pictured seem to still have stress stripes, I would think that after a while these will go away but the colours are natural for their fins and can come in varying degrees of colouring

what size tank are they in? how long hav you had them? you said a few weeks...so really the stress should have gone by now chances are that they are picking one one another becuase there are only 2, you might want to add a couple more of space permits...then hopefully they will calm down and their colours will shine!

Er, what?

Females quite often look like that, especially when they're stressed. The stripes are usually associated with stress, some females seem to naturally have more prominent ones but I'd try and find out if there's anything that could be stressing them, like other fish or each other, or whatever.

Just moved them into bigger tank so they werent so close to each other but never seen any agression between them, they have coloured up alot since i got them when i say a couple of weeks its more like 8 days, I'm very busy with my business ive no idea what day it is, they are in the big 200L tank and have been keeping an eye on them nothing seems to be bothering them and they seem to like each others company.

That was added before the pictures were added :good:

a lot of female bettas naturally have horizontal lines, not due to stress, just naturally have them. in fact before they all started to get inbred and cross bred and whatever else people decided to do with them, all the female bettas would have shown horizontal dark lines.

Yeah I noticed that with my female. Her natural 2 lines running along her sides, they stay ther but gt darker when she is confronted with another betta. She is a teal color, so you can see them when they are faded too x

horizontal lines= "stress" stripes. some always have them no matter how "unstressful" their environment is. good that they are coloring up-take it as a sign that they are becoming accustom to their new surroundings.
enjoy the girls.
cheers

wont go on with the stress stripes as its been mentioned several times but if it was tail type ID's you wanted then the link in my siggie will be very helpful :)
