Hoovering

I've not lng had my sand in my tank and have jst dne my first water change with the same hoover as b4 when i had gravel.i couldn't suck the poo up without sand is there another hoover i can get or another method i could use???

you can use the gravel vac, however the techinque is a little different.

hold the end of the vac about 1/2" from the sand and in small circular movements move it accross the sand.
this should creat a vortex that picks up the detrius and some fine sand particles.
it will take you a few trys to get the hang of it, but after that you be an expert.

i just use a long piece of air tubing strapped to a long scraper and syphon into a bucket hoovering just off the surface then top with water used does not take long atall the poo is lighter than the sand and you can see it lifting, this seems to be easierto me and you can get between plants and rock as well.

Do what I do..I have white sand in my puffer tank...forever covered in algae or bloodworm skins...

Just hoover up all the crap,whatever sand gets sucked up also just swish the water around and clean it-switch off your filter and pour the sand back in.
