Secondly, now people will tell you that male Honeys don't really harass the females and for the most part that may be true. But as someone who had their male stress two females into bacterial infections that then killed them I would advise you to be wary. He was fine at first but then after about 2 months (Im assuming when he reached maturity) he started to constantly chase and nip the one female that was there at the time. When died I got another hoping that maybe he'd be ok with this one. After a few days I realised he wouldn't be so I had the idea of getting 2 more to "spread it out". No such luck, he just bullied all 3 and the second one I bought died. So I decided enough was enough and put him in his own tank. Sadly he had died the next morning too for reasons I still don't know.
I still have the last 2 females I bought which I pray ARE actually female ( very hard to tell). They seem to be fine right now but I won't relax about it for a few months yet. I totally believe that any fish can be fine and then one day turn and start bullying. Who knows why.
Sadly my LFS doesn't usually have females otherwise i'd go for them. The honeys they do have are red flames, so females should be easy to tell apart. I won't be getting a pair though - i like living fish How would a single male do? He'd be sharing the tank with 2 otos
I would have thought he'd be fine yeah. When you say Red Flame......are you sure that's a Honey and not a Dwarf? Though I shouldn't think it makes a lot of difference if you're only gonna have one.
