One of my neons died yesterday the day after I changed filter to a fluval U2, the other 8 neons seem fine bright red swimming around, but my honey gourami is just sitting in to top right hand corner of my tank and occasionaly swims down to grab something he thinks is food, his to front fins appear to have red streaks but all other finage is fine with no damage, water chemistry is ammonia 0 - 0.25ppm as the colour is alway inbetween which is why I got a better filter to try change that, nitrite 0 and never check nitrate as do water 10-20% changes every 3 days, and when I fed them earlier before I noticed the red straks he was as usual getting all the I put in. i also did another 20% water change before as well as the 50% one I did yesterday so that 70% in 24 hours any help would be useful. as should I not feed them for a few days? just puzzled as its the first time a fish has died in my tank that has not been ropey since the day I got it.

Did you transfer the old fiter media into the new filter when you made the change? If not, your tank is probably going through a new cycle. That is my first thought.

Knew I would get that question after I read through, and yes all of it except 1 cartridge and a small filter intake cover sponge, and now he seems to be swimming around eating algea of plants for abit then sitting on the bottom.

Yes, sorry! I did cringe slightly when I asked, but it is the most obvious response, and probably the most common problem. How long have you had the tetras? Is the water flow a lot different than with your other filter?

I had a gourami that lived for years, and he had a habit of always sitting at the bottom. He was healthy and happy seeming... just a bit strange. I hope you get to the bottom of it!

I've turned the flow right down as the old filter was HOB and was in the middle facing fowards now the U2 is on the right hand side shooting water across left ways, had the tetras for about 2 months and lost one after a month but was ropey from the beginning and then this one just died after I put the new filter in was stuck to the side. so imagine it was stress. but the gourami is just wierd as soon as i put food in came staright out of the corner nom nom noming, so just have to see hwta hes like in the morning.
