It says one can be placed in ten gallons. If you have males, though, they might get brutal. Females might be ok in gorups...

The temperature of their water gets to well over 80F as it is. It falls at night, though.... I think it should be ok. My fish are almost always at around 80 and my gouramis (just dwarf gouramis).

Looking in a book it suggests similar sized fish in the tank. Probably because they will bully smaller fish.

HTH

To begin with, 55 gallons i way to small for 1 bala shark, let alone 5. A group of 3 needs at least a 90 gallon tank due to their size. Angels can be kept with a lot of similar sized fish such as gourami (like you purchased) catfish, larger characins and the list goes on and on.

In a 55g tank, i wouldn't put more than 4 dwarf gourami, it sound very little but they're territorial fish, despite their small size and non threatning looks. The temperature is fine

Good luck with your tank.

thank you, i was told that bala's get to be 12 to 15" as they get to be full size so n i my tank should have plenty of space for them 2 turn around in if not i will give them away.

It's not just space to turn around in. It's also the space to move around in.

Not to mention that they will be unhappy if confined, and the wastes of larger fish are quite a bit more than those of smaller fish.

Just as long as you can provide better accomodations for them, they should be ok in that tank for a little while.

Like Tempestuousfury said,

Bala sharks are quite active fish. They swim quite fast and powerfully. They need a tank long enough to accomidate this behaviour and a 55g tank simply dosn't offer this.

alright thanx

My gouramis are chilling on the bottom right corner of my tank. Arent they top to mid level dwellers? How long should it take for them to get comfortable with their new enviroment.

They could be on the bottom for a number of reasons. The first being they are being scared by their tankmates. Bala sharks are skitish fish, they're scared by their own shadow, so they're constantly on the move. Their quick swimming could freighten the more passive gourami.

Secondly, they may prefer the bottom of the tank since their is a lot of food stuck in the substrate and they like pecking away at it

Give them some times and they will eventually come around
