Ok, the 40 gallon tank that we have appears to be nearly cycled. The ammonia is at 0, nitrite at about .15 ppm, and nitrate at about 20 ppm. I dont quite know what to put in it. My dad is begging me to put in some interesting but I keep explaining to him that pleco, ocsars, convicts, Jack Demprsys, pacus, etc will overstock, require diffrent water conditions, and will kill each other.

Now to the question, What interesting fish can I put in there? I know angles would be good because it's a high tank but that would greatly reduce what else I could put in. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

i hear you can put platies/mollies in with angels and theyd be just fine...but the guy i heard it from was somewhat of a nut head so i dunno how true it is....hmmm maybe some cichlids though? african? they are quite intresting and some are very vibrant in color i have 7 cich's in my tank now....

(not Actual number of fish...just the order i have em listed  )
1- Frontosa
2- Yellow Fin Asci
3- Peacock
4- Orange Zebra
5- Electric Yellow
6- Lil Blue guy with stripes
7- Albino Cichlid

very neat fish..very active specialy at feeding time....recomend algae based foods and they also have a taste for MOSS

hmm... by interesting do you mean pretty as well?
Or just pretty?
Or just interesting?
Anyways, here are my suggestions....
Male guppies-quite colorful, pretty active, will eat out of you hands and try to "bite" your arm when doing water changes (it tickles :p)

Bettas- would greatly limit the choice of fish but they are terribly smart and you could keep a sorority tank (bunch of females)

Shrimp-these things look really interesting and it looks so amusing when they "walk". I think they are quite interesting and they don't take up much room at all.

Danios-Had no experience with them but I heard they are quite active and I believe they like to stay in groups.
