I'm off travelling for a few days with the wife and I was wondering if anyone had any advice for feeding?

At the moment I'm feeding flakes and the bottom feeder granual stuff one day and a cube of frozen bloodworm (defrosted first) the other day - 1 algae tab every other day and possibly a bit of cubumer or lettuce a couple of times a week.

My parents are able to pop in every other day to feed.

Does anyone have any advice on what should be fed when and if I am supposed to cut down feeds before we go away how far in advance should I do this? :dunno:

Any tips would be appreciated!

Thanks
Pete

Feed them the night before you go away and then do a decent (25% - 35%) water change. Thats it.

If you are only away for a few days your fish will be perfectly fine without being fed.

Getting someone to do feeds for you can more often than not be more trouble than its worth!! :/

I didn't really want to put a specific time down but it's the best part of 2 weeks - hence my question!

I should have been a bit clearer, sorry.

Thanks
Pete

IMO getting them fed just once in the two week period would be fine. I'd go for the hassle free flake and granuals and maybe leave the portion set out to make sure there's no danger of the food tubs being dropped into the tank :)

When I went away for a week recently, I left the daily portions in one of those pill boxes so all my brother had to do was open the box for the relevant day and tip it in.

I read a suggestion here (can't remember who by so I can't give credit where credit is due!) on how to make sure that a friend doesn't kill your fish with kindness by overfeeding while you're away.

Get one (or two or how ever many you need) of those plastic daily pill containers, you know the ones that let you put each day's pills in a separate section ahead of time, and each section has it's own day and lid. They make them by the week and by the month I think.
Fill each section with whatever food you want your fish to have each day. Label the days if they aren't labelled already and tell your friend not to feed more than one day's worth at a time. All they have to do then is to stick to the pre-measured daily food plan.

doh! sunflower beat me to it!
