Well we're coming up on that holiday time of year... I was just wondering if anyone does anything special to their tanks during certain holidays, like small aquarium-safe Halloween statues. Has anyone seen the little buildings and city scenes that people collect around Christmas? Wouldn't it be funny to display those in the aquarium?

Assuming everything was safe enough to put in there.

So I dunno, does anyone decorate their tanks for the holidays?

Doubt I'll do anything. Most decorations are naff, unless they come up with anything mildly OK, I'll give it a miss.

I usually give my fish some special treat meals for the day, like some expensive posh fish food like, i dunno, fresh lightly grilled atlantic king sized prawns for the plecs, or i might spend some time chopping and mushing up krill and river shrimp for the livebearer fry :*) .

I don't know if you all have ever heard of the kentucky state fair but they have a fish section their and they have contest for the best looking tank and this one long 20g had little people at the bottom and a farris wheel and other carnivial rides it looks just like the state fair and they got first place but that was last year when I saw that tank but this year I saw this tank that on the top it had a train track with fake grass and all the scenories that you see people put with model trains and they had a 10g below it and it had some fancy guppies and a little river from the train half of this exibit had a little stream that had flowing water that ended up going into the tank like alittle waterfall it looked so cool. You all should have seen it. :)

I think I'll just stop doing water changes before christmas and let my water go green. Just kidding. I'm sure my wife will find a way to decorate the outside but I won't put anything on the inside of the tank.

First thing that came to mind...

hmmm... never thought about decorating!!! lol i live in hawaii... and everyone decorates their houses like MAD CRAZY ELVES... its kind of funny seeing that there is no snow.. you might as well decorate during spring time too...

I never did decorate my 10G, but Since my 55G is new, I'll have to find something to show it off to the fam.
I'll put tinsel on the stand...thats prolly about it. Maybe I'll get a santa clause or mother mary bubler! :D lol
(No offence to any cathiolics on the forum...)

I've put lights around my bigger tanks for the last few years, here's two pics from last year..

And I play Christmas music in the fishroom, that's about it. The fish hate Halloween because I have this bat that hangs from the ceiling and makes huge circles flapping it's wings, they think it's a bird and it flips them out

Ha! Thats ingenoius!
I have these really cool green christmas lights that'll work nice for that!

haha, great input everyone.

This year I was debating wether or not I wanted to decorate one of my tanks for Halloween in the style of Tim Burton claymation moves like Nightmare Before Christmas or Corpse Bride. In theory it could be done about the same way they make those foamed and painted backgrounds, just carve the shapes of trees or houses out of the foam... but it ended up sounding like a *ton* of work so I let it slide.... for this year. :shifty:

Hey wuv I have that same bat you have in my room with my fish and they don't seem to mind at all. but I guess they can't see it to well since it flys above the tanks not in front.
