I'm going for a holidays up north :kana: and I don't really now what to do with my fish. Last time I went for a holiday I had someone come over every second day to feed my fish but now it seems that everyone is too busy  . I got some weekend feeder blocks but I don't know if my fish will eat it or not  . I also will be missing a water change :/ (I do three water changes a week).

Will my fish be ok? What should I do?

I wouldn't do anything. I went to 4-day long away trips twice so far, and in both cases, I fed nothing and each time, they were fine... From what I have read, fishes in the natural environment don't get much more than a feed once a week or so...

Yep same here they should be fine for four days just try to feed them on the last evening you are home, three water changes a week....it won't hurt missing one of them.

Enjoy your holiday....

Thank you yhbae, gixer and Tropicana Man for your replies :)

I always thought the more water changes the better  Was I wrong? I started doing three water changes after the 2nd huge disease disaster that struck my tank (killing almost every single one of my fish). I thought if I did more water changes would help reduce the chances of diseases striking at my fish... was I wrong again?

Anytime no probs just trying to help...:D.

I was'nt suggesting you do too many but seems you asked it does seem alot!

Well it depends on the size of the tank i think, i do a 35% water change every sunday evening on my big main tank and a 50% on my smaller tank weekly.

Maybe i should start a topic on this and see what the rest of the forum think.

Unless your water supply isn't consistent.

No one has mentioned lights. Personally, I'd make sure the lights were on a timer. Since it's only four days, it may not be necessary, but I've seen bad things happen to fish that went nine days without light. :(

I plan to leave the lights turned off for those 4 days... I don't think it will do too much harm because all my tanks are either next to a window or facing one. I going to leave the curtins open for more light to shine in though, just in case.
The tanks that I'm really concerned about is the 8gal, 10gal and 20gal...but I think they will be ok because you guys said that the fish can survive without food for a week. I'm just going to feed them when I leave and come back.
The reason why I'm not worried about my 35gal is because it's still cycling... not plants are inside either so it's pretty much and empty tank.

Thanks everyone for your help :)

Try the feeder blocks it won't hurt anything. :D Even if they don't like it they will be fine with out it!!!

I personally don't like these - too many horror stories after their vacations... :(

Although some of my tanks are on timers, some don't have any lights. It appears that regular sunlight is more than enough for them to distinguish between a day and a night. I never thought artificial light was that important for fishes... ;)
