Just wondering how i would go about feeding them when i go away on holiday for 2 weeks, we have a relative popping in once or twice in the week but bot every day or every other day.
i tend to feed them every other day
I have looked at the automatic feeder but it feeds them every 12 hours is this ok or do you have any other suggestions on what to do

What kind of fish do you have? Most fish can go for a relatively long time without food, and if you have a relative feeding them every other, or every third day or so, they should be just fine.

If you get the automatic feeder, just have it feed about a quarter as much, as it feeds every 12 hours and not 48. If you can do that, that is.

i have 3 glowlight danio, 2 zebra danio, 3 gold zebra danio, 5 leopard danio, 6 cardinal tetra, 3 amano shrimp, 3 fishnet flying fox and 3 bumblebee snails.

And a realtive feeding about 2-3 times a week

i have heard that the automatic feeders are not that reliable?

I would say let your relative feed them when he/she swings by.

I know rosy red minnows can easily live up to 10 days without any source of food, so I am sure your fish will be just fine not being feed for a couple days at a time.

Fish keepers have the tendency to over-feed their fish without even knowing it, so having your relative feed them 2 times a week will be just fine when you are gone.

I would maybe tell your relative to feed them a little heavier than usual, just so it will make up the days that they were not fed.

Get some small plastic/paper cups and pre-measure the fish food for them so they just have to dump in the cup contents. It is simply amazing how people without fish care experience can overfeed. I've written out instructions before and given a walkthrough to people, only to have massive overfeedings (like 10x what should have been fed). I've had horrendous luck with other people feeding my fish. Make it as idiot proof as possible.

Twice a week, or once a week feedings should be fine.
