Hey all!

I've been out and bought some plants today in preparation for getting my fish on Friday. At the moment I've just got them in a box full of old tank water and an airstone running in it. I've ordered some liquid fertiliser but I'm not expecting it to be here for a few days. Would adding ammonia be beneficial to my plants while they're in this box? Is there anything else I would have around the house I could add that would be of benefit until my fertiliser arrives?

They'll be fine in the dark for a few days. No need to add anything.

Cheers for that.

I've moved my light so one of my spotlights it pointing at the plants. If the liquid fert turns up before Friday I'll give them a little bit just to make myself feel better.

Like RadaR said, it might be best keeping them in the dark. If you add light they'll start to look for nutrients...

Good point. I'll put a lid over them for the moment then.

To avoid making a new thread I'll ask a quick question here. One of my plants was bought as a bunch, just five stems bundled together. I'm not sure what type of plant it is as it wasn't labelled and doesn't seem to be in my plant book (it's a Tropica brand plant so I'm convinced that it is an aquatic plant). The stems don't have any roots. They're a little taller than I'd ideally like - is it okay to cut the bottoms off to make them the height I want or would this be bad for the plant?

You would need to make sure that it's ok first by getting a pic up for somebody to ID it. Sounds like it should be fine but i wouldn't like to say yes or no untill plant is actually correctly ID.
