Hi

Well my 60 liter is getting a little too small for my growing pair of angels so I have bought a fluval venezia 190 litre.

It has come with a fluval 205 filter and I have a small question. If I am to use media from my old external filter can I just put it in a stocking and then put it in the tank? Or should I take some of the gunk from one of the mature media and put it in the foam within the fluval 205?

I also lied I have another few questions.

The fluval 205 has 3 media baskets within. Lower for carbon. Middle and upper has come with what looks like chalky cylinders.

How often should I change the carbon? What are the chalky cylinders? How often should they be changed? What set ups would other users have in the middle and top baskets?

I am looking forward to setting this tank up I just need a background before I start so I don't have to mess about later.

Any help is appreciated.

Mitch

You don't need to run carbon on a day to day basis, so you can use that space to put all your old media in (don't move the media from your old filter until you actually move the fish to the new tank though).

The chalky cylinders are ceramic noodles; they usually hold most of the bacteria and never need to be changed.

For the middle and top baskets, more ceramic noodles, bioballs or sponge would all be fine.

cheers fluttermoth. You always seem to appear with solid information. So just pop my old filter cartridges or one depending if it will fit in the bottom tray and leave the carbon out?

When would I need carbon?

Just for removing medication generally, its only effective for a few days in the filter before its clogged.
