Hmmmm ? Odd Question

Otto's need a mature tank.
 
So if someone wanted some otto's for a mature tank, but they needed quarantining first, how would you advise how to quarantine them as a quarantine tank would not be mature?

Take some tank water and add to QT as well as some filter media?
 
Don't know if that suffices.
 
Also, planning ahead, maybe a small stone / rock thats been in a container of tank water by a windowsill with direct sunlight for algae growth onto the stone / rock may sustain oto for food as well?
 
Thats all can think of tbh, not really something I've thought about, lets hope some experienced folks may come up with some tried and tested methods.

When tanks are referred to as "mature" I think it's in relation to the biofilm in the actual tank on the glass/plants/decor. There will likely be at least small amounts of algae in a "mature" tank to help sustain otos. 
 
Growing algae in a windowsill is a good option unless you're lucky enough to get some otos that are feeding well and actually fed well in a fish store!

I was faced with that problem a few years ago. What I did was I took some of the decor and the plants from my mature tank and added it to the QT. 
I also had taken some of my filter media from the cycled tank and placed it in the smaller filter, so I had an instantly cycled tank. 
 
I only quarantined them for 3 weeks to be honest, but I was lucky that they weren't carrying any illnesses.
