Bought myself a ct betta xmas eve he seems a happy chappy but it seems as if his best game is to play dead  He likes to lay on the bottom which is sand substrate tucked in between the glass and a moss ball.
A couple of times I have been looking into the tank seen him and thought ####e he's dead then the little sod decides to go take a swim. This was quite worrying from day 1 but seems to be his normal behaviour. He shares his tank with 2 male guppies if they didn't get on I had the choice of 2 other tanks for the guppies but they don't take any notice of each other.
He is alert follows my finger ....... enjoys feed time :good:
Any other bettas out there with funny habits ??

What is it with bettas and mossballs! lol
You have no idea... my CT used to absolutely LOVE his mossballs when I had them in the tank.
He would peck at them and then lay on, inbetween and beside them. A few times I couldn't find him in the tank b/c he had wedged himself so close beside/under them. He never got himself stuck though :p

I snapped some pics of him resting beside his balls

well the play dead is a very funny thing really, ive got a vt, unusual colour and a very pretty fish but 97% of people who view him when they enter the shop say "excuse me but one of your fish is dead" . One lady in particular said exactly the same thing, i said "oh which one?" as she pointed at the tank he shot up and swam around she almost wet herself with fright  and b/c of this reason he will prob never sell so think he's gunna end up joining my growing collection of KEEPS which is at 5 so far, he does nothing but lie on his back in a slightly curled up position and defo looks dead.

i wouldnt worry about it though b/c like said above if he's eating and going up for air he will be fine, remember it takes some bettas time to adjust to their new homes as well

Thanks for that feel much better now :good: He (scrag) is definately fun to watch ! Seems to be fine with the 2 guppies at the mo. Enjoys food time and takes notice of me pottering in the kitchen :)

Where can I get moss balls? they look so comfy! like little beds for bettas. My betta sometimes lays between the fake plants and acts "dead" sometimes - I just shake the fish food container and he quickly wakes up and runs to the glass.

All my LFS sell the moss balls. I think they are quite attractive things to have in the tanks

Aw that's silly. :p Yeah, sometimes mine do that. Silly Bettas!
