hiya guys i got my bettas some betta food and they just spit it out so what should i feed um im feedin up gold fish food at the moment plz reply :hyper:

if they dont like the pellets then just try regular tropical flakes or crisps, you can also get betta flakes too

it maybe that they dont like the feel of the pellets lol

you can also feed them bloodworm as a treat =] [although one of mine hates them!]

fussy little things

Hi betta989 :)

I've had good luck feeding bettas the same foods I feed my corydoras. That is a good quality flake food, blackworms and frozen bloodworms if that's what's on the menu that day. One of them even pecks at a Hikari Sinking Wafer. :D

Well, Hikari betta Bio-Gold, is the most common that people feed there bettas, i feed my four them too, and they love it!! :)

its available from Ebay.

Agree, its the best betta food. Pets at Home used to sell it, but now ebay is the only place i can find it.

A lot of bettas refuse pellets at first. The best running theory is that they do not recognize them as food because they are encapsulated in gel to make them float. Once the betta gets hungry enough, he will crunch it and get to the tasty part, and from then on they learn that pellets aren't all that bad once they get past the gel!

On the note of nutrition, bettas will love most frozen food. It's high in nutrition and makes a great diet supplement. You can also feed them tropical fish granules or even different brands of pellet to vary their diet. Here is what I feed my guy:

BETTA PELLETS:
-Random pet-store pellets
-Hikari Bio-Gold (great staple)

TROPICAL FISH FOOD
-Hikari Micro Pellets
-Hikari Micro Wafers
-Nutrafin Tropical Granules
-Sera Tropical Granules
-Sera protein pellets

FROZEN
-Bloodworm
-Tubifex
-Brine Shrimp

LIVE
-Pond Snails form my endler colony
-Fry culls

The only things I wouldn't recommend are Freeze-Dried foods (too bloat-y) and vegetable-based foods like spirulina flakes or algae wafers.

Hi betta989,

I'm very sorry to hear about your fish, but please don't take it so hard. Any fish you get will be at risk for the first month or so at best. They go through a lot of stress during shipping and this sometimes takes a while to show. It might not be your fault. Everyone loses fish sometimes.

What I would suggest you do is anzlyze the situation and see if anything can be improved for your other ones. You are right about the water changes; they do need them regularly. The frequency depends on the size of their container.

If you like bettas, don't give up. We will help you all we can.

It looks like his eye cover fell of i dont think crowns are for starters :-(

Hi

I'm sorry about your betta. It does sound like you might not be able to save him, but if you describe the set up and his symptoms people might be able to help you make sure it doesn't happen again. But as Inchworm said, don't give up. I bought two bettas previously, and they both died within about 36 hours. I was going to give up and thought it must be my fault, but then I got another one. I've only had him two weeks, but he seems healthy, and it's worth persevering. Good luck.

Sorry about your betta... just research and try again. What size tank was he in and how often did you change the water?

Also, don't hesitate to get a crowntail as your first betta. They are the same species as veils and all other tail types and require identical care.

Sorry you lost your fish, but don't let that discourage you from keeping another. Take a look at the pinned topics in this section and read some of the posts from here and then try your luck again. Bettas make great pets.
