As many of you know, I had to redo our 75 gallon tank because of a pH crash that led to a rise in bad bacteria that blanketed our tank, killed our good bacteria and were starting to kill our fish. Because of the major problem we had, we redid the tank, and hence, have been forced into doing a fish-in cycle. I've been changing out the water every day to keep the ammonia levels low.

Before we redid our 75 gallon tank is was prone to suffering pH crashes all the time. The pH would offten dip to 6.0 or lower. Since we redid the tank, its been about a week or two since I ran a pH test on it. I just ran one and had the following results:

Low Range pH: 7.6
High Range pH: 8.6-8.8 (don't remember which)

I've always had a broad range pH tester and I'm not quite sure how to read the high/low range pH stuff. I think that would mean my pH is 8.6 to 8.8?

Regardless, I'm keeping Amazonian Whitewater fish in my tank, as that's what I had before, and I'd prefer my pH to stay between the ranges of 6.8 to 7.7. (Are these good ranges for my fish? Just want other opinions). How can I keep my pH from crashing again (though we haven't had this problem in the newly set up tank) and how can I keeping from raising off the charts in alkalinity?

i have the same kit as you i believe your low ph reading will only go go to the max it says on the chart a darkish blue then thats an insentive to move on to your high range and you can determine from there what you ph is if its the lowest on there means your ph is about 7.6-8

cheers dane
