My tap water has 30-40ppm nitrates so that is a problem. My tank will be planted however that will take time to grow out and i need a quick solution.
Have you used any, or can recommend me any nitrate filter sponges?
My filter in an Interpet PF1, it has no official nitrate sponges for it.
Would I be able to buy some that are for other filters and cut it to size?

Hi VladVenger:

I'm not familiar with your filter, but if it has room in the media chamber then you could use one of the ion-exchange resins like Seachem De-Nitrate or Kent Marine's product called "Nitrogen Sponge." You would place it in a mesh media bag in your filter's media chamber.

Otherwise, yes it should be possible to cut another filter pad product to fit your filter, if the other product is similar in thickness.
