High Nitrate In The Tap Water

High nitrate in the tap water

anyone have an effective cure of reducing it from the tap water???

Mines's 40ppm ish

I don't wanna use nitra-zorb or anything that i put in the filter.

I tried pozzani - first cartridge great (first yellow ever on my api test kit, but subsequent cartridge were red again), then scrapped that - not great long term.

i tried lots of aquatic plants; 20 anubias, 23 moss balls, 5grams of java moss, all in at the same time, gave it a couple of months - nada effect on the nitrate tap levels.

40ppm is fine!

Although i wouldn't advocate it but, there has been studies done where inverts (CRS high grade) were put under ppm's of 300-400, only then did nitrate start to affect the inverts (short term). There is some argument about long term effects of high nitrates (over 100 ppm), but 40 ppm isn't anything to worry about. I'm happy to keep my nitrates at 50ppm in my planted tanks and these are containing very sensitive fish (Choc gouramis).
