Hi, I'm new to this forum so hope this is posted in right place.

I use the api master test kit to test my water I was struggling to get my nitrates down even when doing multiple water changes.

I decided to test my tap water my api test kit suggest my nitrate levels are 60ppm straight from the tap. I rang my water supplier who said the api is known for giving inaccurate nitrate readings they tested the water and they came back with a reading of 36.4ppm.

I live in the UK. Has anyone else had problem with api test kits showing inaccurate too high reading and also how do get my nitrates to a safe level if even my tap water is high.

Thanks

You could ask an independent lab to test the water for you. Then if the nitrate is above 50ppm, you will need to contact the press, water company, health department and government because the level exceeds maximum allowable limits and you are being poisoned by the water.

If you do get a lab to test the water, have them check everything they can so you get a complete and thorough listing of what is in it.
