High Ammonia , Alkaline Tap Water In Piranha Tank

Bad water quality takes it's toll on fish as the stress weaken there immune system, burns there skin and gills.
Blood dosn't flow well through the blood vessels.
Until you can get good water quality the fish is not going to get well. He might not make it.
If you had bad water quality for ages the water stats are telling you the tanks overstocked and the filter not coping.

My fish (my brothers to be more honest) is getting stressed with new water changes (was moving around the tank a bit). I just changed a little more water at the same temperature as the tank water. He was getting a bit stressed, then calmed and now seems a little bit better. I've just checked the ammonia - its at 2.4 now, I hope I can get it to zero by tomorrow. I'll get the 50% change done today. Fish is swimming quite low but breathing quite steadily. I'm still scared that he/shes bloated and seems to be swimming as if it were very heavy although it has picked up a little bit. I just hope that I can save it. Davo, Wilder, thanks for all your help. I really appreciate it. S'okay if I give updates? Sorry to pass on so much headache.

Ill ask my family if they have any friend that have any mature filter media ir any gravel from their tanks. A centre in Norfolk has said that they can take the fish so hopefully I will be able to hand them over the fish if it recovers.
