Hiding Neon Tetra Which Is Fatter Than The Others!

hi my neon tetra keeps hiding behind a plant and he is the one that is fatter than all the others. she/he never used to be fat. could she/he be pregnant or just plain greedy! help im not sure. btw not sure if its male or female :blush:

hi,
how many do you have?
the bigger neons tend to be female, i dont know why shes hiding.
mine dont hide even when full of eggs, i have 10 btw.

Is this neon eating properly and you see it getting more food or does it hide when you feed also?

How are the colors on him/her?

hi thnx for the replys i have four neons and the one which is hiding comes out whenever i feed the fish. her colours seem bright and normal like the others she just keeps hiding behind the 1 place behind a plant :

I have this problem as well. I have 5 neons but one of them always hides at the back of the tank near the bottom behind the plants. Once its feeding time its out and about with the others feeding. (Have only had them 6 days mind you!)

we used to hav neons a few years ago & lost a couple who displayed the symptoms you describe, they ended up being hugely obese & very swollen, they still ate,swam around,bickered with their tankmates but always looked grossly swollen around their bellies. i tried feeding daphinia,peas,bloodworm everything i could think of that may have helped cure constipation but nothing made any difference, the fish carried on like this for a few months before dying. i posted with a pic on another forum but nobody knew what the prob was.....i'll see if i can find the pic of my fat neons for you to see if yours are thesame.unfortunately i cant offer any advice as to what to do to help the fish.sorry
