Hi i have a jewel 180 tank that i bought second hand,this is planted with silk and plastic plants rocks and driftwood with sand as my base. over the past two weeks i have started to lose fish. i was given some advise and found i was missing some sponges and the cirax from my filter this is now correct.i carry out regular water changes and hoover the sand. The question i have is how long before the filter will be running correctly and hopefullty stop the fish from dying? thanks.

if you havent cycled youre tank already then it will take weeks. you should change 90% of youre water now and then 50% daily to combat ammonia levels in youre water

Yes. You must cycle your tank. That way all the ammonia will be gone.
