Hello, 1st fish forum I have visited so appolagies in advance for not knowing terminology etc lol. We have a plec at the moment (about 14 inches long) in a 48 inch tank, we did have an oscar but he died recently of old age (was about 15 years old bless him). our tank looks really bare now as he was quite large. we were considering getting communal fish, but want to look into it properly 1st so any advice from anyone here will be hugely appreciated.
Would it be possible to have communal fish with our plec considering her size? if so what fish would you recomend please?
Thank you, shelley

Hi Shelley. I have a plec that is 12 inches long, so not as long in the tooth as yours. I find that during the day, he is not really a factor in the tank, cos he seems to be mostly nocturnal. He is kept company by a synodontis. Synodontis are a very beautiful fish, and will do well with the plec. I know, I know before you all tell me, that a synodontis should be kept in a high PH tank, but I swear mine is very happy in the 6x2x2. I personally would go for a larger fish to accompany the plec. Maybe Geophagus Brasil, Jurupari, Clown loaches, Silver sharks. I have 2 Silver (bala) sharks and they get on great with the plec.

Again - just a personal opinion

WELCOME TO THE BEST FISHFORUM AROUND :D

As your tank is 4foot long there are quite a few species of fish that you are able to keep, not just small ones either.
It depends what your looking for really..... peaceful, aggressive, colourful, interesting, small, medium, large. But there aren't many larger fish available that would be suitable for your tank.
Im sure that if you provide the information of the variety of fish you would like to have, then we will point you in the right direction. :)
