Hi im new to this site but have been keeping fish for roughly 5 years, the thing is im moving house and in the process i am goin to change the backdrop of my tank. I work on building sites and saw some roof slates in a skip, so i helped myself to a couple of bags :) now i know i cant just put these straight in to a tank and put the fish in so is there any type of cleaner that would be safe to use that doesnt kill any fish? Many thanks Mark

just hot water leave them to soak then scrub them mate

Cheers, would boiling kettle water be best? no soap?

yes, just normal boiling water. make sure you give them a good scrub before putting them in the tank. :good:

Welcome to the forum Popodop.
Slate is really a nice material to work with. It is almost inert in a typical tank and unless it has been in an especially contaminated environment, I would be happy to use it after merely rinsing off the worst of the dirt.

Can sometimes find that the dust on the slate if you haven't washed it off properly can make the water go a little murky, but that soon clears. Should look nice with a slate background
