hi i thought i'd say hello to you all as im new to this.

hi, welcome from another newbie!
am guessing your problem is white spot?

it's easily treatable with anti white spot from the pet shop, some fish are more susceptible, especially clown loaches, give them a dose and they should be right as rain
as for what causes it, i believe it is a parasite of some sort, tho others may be more accurate than me, i've been keeping fish for 20 years and have only had it once, guess i am lucky!

wow i have only had my tank up and running a week and am diseased already

if more than 50% of the fish in your tank have whitespot then treat the whole tank, if only a few, try and set up a hospital tank.

Welcome to the forum from a fellow newbie to the forum

I hope you have cycled your tank and not just put your fish straight in-whitespot often occurs from poor water conditions making the fish susceptible to disease.

did you have the tank set up and running for a while before you put the fish in?

zoex, glad you've found TFF!

The place to go next is over to the "New to the Hobby" forum and read the beginners articles pinned to the top there. There is a Beginners Resource Center with a Cycling Resource set of links. There are good articles by Miss Wiggle and AlienAnna and other forum members. Then fairly quickly, you can start a question thread in the "New to.." forum.

You can also find further articles about fish diseases and get continuing help on that in the "Tropical Fish Emergencies" forum where there are some moderators who keep an eye on the information given about diseases and medicines I believe.

Good Luck! ~~waterdrop~~
