Hi,

I'm Katie and I'm new to this forum, not so much new to fish as I've had them with my dad in the past but now i have my own tank. I currently have Guppies and 2 Endler Males.

So i am breeding the guppies but I'm a bit confused? I have 4 Female Guppies (which were all pregnant). i now have 4 fry, but have NO idea what female they have come from. 1 of the fry is just over a week old and the others only a few hours. i didn't have a breeding tank in my tank as i wasn't sure of the dates and didn't want to stress the females out. so i have found these fry in the tank. i have check all my females but looking at them they all still have the gravid spot and are all still quite fat round the tummies? I'm not sure how to identify who has given birth. if anybody could help me with this i would be very grateful.

Thanks

Katie

my guppies having just gad fry also and i had the same problem but all i did is just watch them all closly and wait for one to pop some more out just make sure u got plenty of places for the fry to hide plants ect but thats the only waiy i know hope this as halped a little bit

Its possible the fry are just born and there is more to come.
Have you places for the fry to hide? Plants?

Most females will always have a visible gravid spot. You can identify by spending more time watching them and thus gaining experience with what they look like before and after birth.. you've got many batches of new fry ahead of you ;)

yeah they have plenty places to hide lots of plants and caves and things, although as soon as i spot them i put them in my little fry tank i have set up. i sat and watch them for about an hour to see who was giving birth but still didnt see anything.. i think it missed it and just caught the fry that got away. oh well im sure i can work it out eventually. Thanks for the help tho :)

I should warn you that you male Endler's can also breed with the guppies as they are so closely related.

+1 they dont call them endlers guppies for nuttin you know!

True; in fact they will be gupy/Endler hybrids; only stock from a 'proper' breeder will be pure Endler's now; all the ones in the trade are hybrids.

i saw some true endlers in a guppy tank. tried to sell them to me at twice the price when i told them what they were!

yes i know :D but i don't think they are pure breeds as they were sold as Endler Guppies, but as i am only breeding for my tank and like a hobby almost i don't think it will affect it too much. i thought they just looked really pretty but all my females were already pregnant by the time i had the bought the endlers i'm pretty sure none of the first few fry will be endler hybrids.

Thanks

Katie
