This is my first post and i do realise this is a welcome forum so hi. I am from Sydney Australia and this may be informative to locals as i have experimented over the years with plants from my pond and garden with my tank and have found some plants that arent tropical plants nor water plants survive very well in the Aquarium. i am sure there are other members that have experimented or seen others growing outdoor plants underwater.

I have had sucess with......
Rock Moss. i believe it is spaghnum moss it is peat moss growing green underwater. Local growing on bush rock in Sydney.
Wandering Dew, A noxious weed which can give skin irritations but thick leaved plant and attractive.
Rafus palm. A palm that grows quite big i have seen them 6 feet in garden but smaller ones look great.
Spanish Moss. Grows coast of NSW in Australia and in Florida A purple gray beared plant that grows green in aquarium.
thins out a bit but does ssem to survive even tho an air plant not a water plant.
Many other plants if i only had green thumb i could perhaps name them all the ones above i know the names too.

I have plenty of nice plants in my aquarium that i have bought but because i live in a relatively warm enviroment with feral tropical fish in local waterways i do take note what is growing around my garden own pond and local creeks and dams. I have recently caught Mosquito fish and guppies with short blue tails and redfin in local dam and rivers. They are not in my aquarium but as ferals were removed from waterways. The next lot i will catch i might breed as feeders but the parents will be and or are full of copper lead mercury and i am not giving my fish parasites and heavy metals for dinner so will treat parents and perhaps breed before freezing of folks.

I thought i would contribute first post and if others have had success with other plants they may wish to name them.

Welcome Australian.
That is very interesting about the spanish moss. I have seen the stuff hanging from trees as an air plant and would have never expected it to grow under water. Who knows though, the humidity in Florida is almost like being under water.

australia is awesome my uncles lives in perth kallaroo/mullalo i love perth ive been twice. kingspark such a great place. as is the aqaurium at hillarys. they take sea water from the bay and use it in their tanks so no filtration is needed. well alittle but. but they have some lovely sea horses the ones diguised as seaweed

Thanks for the warm welcome probably not the place to post a good subject the welcome forum so i might repost it or bring up the subject in a more relevant forum. However yes i got the Spanish moss Idea watching a documentry on the Florida swamps where i noticed it was green underwater it also pointed out it was in abundance hanging from trees above the swamp. I knew it grew about 60 mins away so i got some.

Welcome Australian.
ROFL

Howdee & welcome to the forum Sydneysider :)
