Hi,
Just joined today after finding this site accidently whilst trying to find some fish info. I have been keeping fish about 5 yrs now although I kept them as a teenager many years ago.I have a 33 gallon community tank and currently keep rummy nose tetras, thredfin rainbows, praecox rainbows, marble hatchets, cardinals, a couple of corys and some amano shrimp.

hi how are your threadfins. ive just acquired 3 of these about a month ago. they were in the managers special tank at pets at home for 50p each and i bought them because they were cheap but know nothing about them. i dont even know what the difference in the sexes is.

Hi there threadfins are great little fish, only growing 2" long, although most of that is finnage. The fins of the male are very exaggerated and outlined in black, the females have less finnage and their bodies are a little rounder, although they are quite hard to sex when small(my first 2prs from a reputable fish dealer turned out to be all male, despite he and I spending ages choosing them) I have had mine about 6 months and guess they are almost fully grown. When the males show off to each other they are stunning, extending their fins so that they are as high as they are long. They are very peaceful and more often than not shoal together.
Good luck with yours, they are a fish most people looking at my tank don't notice-unless they are displaying, then everyone wants to know where they can get some!!
