Hi From A Newbie

hey everyone im new to fish keeping and was hoping i could get some pointers from some more expirienced aquarists. right now i have a ten gallon freshwater tank with one male platy two male guppies an an oto catfish. what fish should i add next if any and i was thinking of upgrading to a twenty or thirty gallon tank by about cristmas, any stocking ideas?
also i wanted to post some pics of my tank but they were all to big or something is there any ways to post my pics?

Hi Rockdon, and welcome to this very friendly forum!

Regarding photos, you can use some of the free photo sharing sites to link pictures over to your posts on the forum. It works well. I know people have success with both Flickr and Photobucket. I use Flickr and posted detailed steps on adding photos on this thread:

Is your aquarium fully cycled? Is it planted? What are the water parameters?

For the moment, I would add some more Otos, so that there are at least 6 and maybe more male platys and guppies.

Hi, i would also say add some more otos cause they like to hang around in groups. other options for your tanks might be more platys and guppys, endlers, shrimp, snails, a shoal of tetra

ok so my water temp is usualy in the upper 70s.
my tank is cycled.
i went to the pet shop two days ago and had my water cheked the person said to do a small water change cause my ph was off so i did.
i dont have any live plants just plastic and a couple pirate ships for hiding in.
oh yea and my water is pink/red its getting better before it was like tea any ideas on whats going on?

Welome to the Forum. Like you I was a complete beginner about 18 months ago when I first started keeping fish. I now have 7 fish tanks with all kinds of tropical and coldwater fish and can honestly say I learnt everything I know about fish from Forum members. Many are very knowledgable and give good advice.
I'm concerned about the colour of your tank which seems unusual. Do you haev any ornaments that might be colouring the water and altering the pH? The only other thing that can do that is a big piece of bogwod but you don't appear to have any wood in the tank. I would advise you to get the pH sorted and find out what is causing the colour change (THE 2 MAY BE LINKED)before adding any more fish.

+1 for above advice about water. The culprits might be your gravel or your plants or the ship.

Does the photo show 2 Platys? Anyway, a good stocking for after you sort out the water problem would be:
6 Otos
6 male Guppies
6 male Platys

I advise against female because otherwise they will breed out of control. If you really want to keep females, then the following:
6 Otos
6 male Guppies
2m 4f Platys

You should also consider getting some live plants. Java moss is amazing stuff and really easy to look after.

thanks for all the help so far guys i still havent gotten my water problem sorted out but i think it could be the orange plants that are attached to my pirate ships.
im going to take in some of my water tomorrow and see whats up.

ill try to keep you posted on my tank.

also RATE MY GUPPIES scale of 1-10 and rate my tank scale of 1-10

1= feeder guppies
10=award winning show guppies
