Hi to everyone. I found the forums again. Not new to keeping tropicals but it has been a while since my last tank setup.

Just acquired an Aquaone AR850 tank from my sister-in-law for free. Only one problem is that the powerhead, pipes and filter trays from the lid filter setup are missing. (Any help in finding a seller of these would be appreciated). Using a Tetra 300-1000 plus filter for now.

Going for my first sand setup instead of gravel, tank has been setup for 4 days now, and the water is still a bit cloudy. May go back to gravel yet. Going to wait and see if it clears before adding fish. Will eventually be a planted tank hopefully, all being ok with the sand.

Any help and advice would be appreciated anyway.

Heyyy

Welcome back to the forums. 2004 sign up, certainly been a while since you've been around :) Always nice to see old faces return.

Let me know what's the best price you can get them at.. I might be willing to beat that! I have a set for the 980, which was almost never used because I use external filters.

Seeing as though the tank was free, could you not just get an external filter and have it in the cabinet below. My future father-in-law runs the AR980 and his filter is hopeless IMO, never been a fan of them. I think you'd be better off with an external filter anyway, something like a Fluval 205, or 305 would do. You can pick them up cheap enough on eBay or alternatively wholesalers have prices comparable with eBay. You can get a brand new Fluval 305 on eBay for a shade under £80.

Good morning and welcome back! I used to use gravel and switched to sand in most of my tanks. Sand is nice. The fish seem to like it better. My water stats are better. The only problem I found is the tank looks dirtier before a water change. That's because the yuck stays on top of the sand and doesn't sift down in like it does in gravel. :good:

Thanks for the warm welcome back.

Got a work colleague that had an AR850, but his tank burst and he thinks he still has the entire filter system with pipes.

Thanks for the offer KittyKat, I may make you an offer if my work mate does not have the bits, but not at all sure what the price would be. If you have a price in mind, let me know.

Tanks looking good, still a bit cloudy, but it is clearing up every day. Testing it out with a few neons and platys before stocking it properly.

Tried to PM you KittyKat, but its not working for me yet. Let me know a rough price for the filter system. My work mate hasnt found the parts. Got a price from an online dealer, but they want silly money. Maybe looking at an external filter instead for that sort of cash.

I think you need to get 10 posts first :) I tried replying to your email, but it bounced back, saying there was a problem delivering it..
