Hi, I recently bought my very first aquarium after weeks of research to make sure everything I wanted in it would work together and not make snacks out of their neighbors. I've lurked around here for a few days before deciding that this community would be able to help me in my cluelessness, most of you being veterans of the aquatic pet keeping hobby.
Currently I am the proud caretaker of three small comets (about two and a half inches each), a nearly three inch bristle-nose pleco (he makes me smile with his odd looks!
), a small snail (Which has already managed to lay eggs in the few days that it has been in the tank, which were promptly removed due to the fact I don’t want a snail ranch), a few plants of some sort (I dunno what it is, but the fish like it
) ), and a tail munching betta that has been relocated to a five gallon tank instead of the 15 gallon.
I was very upset when my betta killed off my favorite comet, he was all white with a deep brown stripe down his back. I only wish I hadn't been at school because I might have noticed the harassment sooner. *Weep* And so, with a very heavy heart, I was forced to bag the beta and relocate him to the five gallon that was to be used when I was cleaning the larger one.
I had read on several sites that the betta would be fine in a tank with fish larger than it, but apparently he was more aggressive than some of the other betta out there. Meh, I was angry with him for the rest of the day, but I forgave him of his fishy ways...but no more friends for him except for the apple snail that I plunked in with him yesterday!
I know that comets are not the most amazing fish to keep, but I felt that since I was starting out I should have some more...sturdy fish to teach me what to do. If there are any other fish out there that can endure me and my tendency to overfeed, I would love to get some. *Laughs* But for now I am more than happy with my fish, even though they make my room a bit stinky and very much humid.
