Hey all!

I'm afraid I have been very naughty and already posted once before introducing myself... :S
...So...Apologies all-round! :D

Anyway, my name's Ben, from the UK and I'm fairly new to fish. Me and my girlfriend have just set up our first tank and matured it, (a 240 litre (UK) Juwel Rio) and are hoping to take each day as it comes, learn as much as we can as we go along, and really enjoy our aquarium to its fullest.

Currently, we have our first couple of fish, 2 Plecs (we've been assured they wont grow bigger than 5" (fingers crossed!)) and 4 beautiful Keyhole Cichlids which are currently loving the huge tank to themselves :)
Eventually we want to build up a nice South American Cichlid community, consisting of 2-4 Angels, 4 Blue Rams, possibly some (non-edible) Tetra, and the above current occupants.

Anyway, I might be posting a fair bit, depending on how well it all goes, but just to say 'hello' to everyone, and I look forward to talking with you in the upcoming future :)

Ben

Welcome to the forum! :good:
Im gettin a Rio 180 next week hopefully, are they good?
I like the sound of your tank plans but im not shure about tetra and cichlids? :S
I might be wrong but i dont think you will be getting any tetra with any cichlid.
Its a shame because it would be great if cichlids where community fish wouldnt it?
Oh well good luck whatever you get and with this forum you won't go wrong!
Cheers Joemuz :D

Thanks for the info :)

The Juwel Rios are really good and if you get it with the cabinet they look even better. Personally I'm unsure about the filters etc. as we bought our tank second hand, and the internal filter had been taken out and replaced with an external eheim professional II filter (I think the guy before had marine so needed extra filter power). But considering what our tank has been through (ALOT of moving until we bought our house!), I'll tell you one thing - it's certainly robust ;). But I'd say from my (minimal) experience that Juwel make really good tanks.

As far as the tetra go, I know exactly what you mean. We had never planned on getting tetra, and thought the same as you, but the guy from our fish shop said there's a couple of varieties that are fine with S.A Cichlids. Whether I believe him or not is another matter ... a think I need to do some more research :) Even if we cant have them - hey ho, it would purely have been for a community shoal - we find the cichlids much more fascinating. :)

Thanks again for the post and advice :)

If anybody feels they can help, could you please look at my post on the DIY forum about Tank Hoods - I'm having a small dilemma.
Many thanks :)
