Hi, Bought myself a used Juwel tank with a Fluval 106 pump. Had it all set up for a while now. Bought 6 Neons first off with 2 Kribensis a nice breeding pair. A week later I bought 5 more neons and a couple of weeks later I bought 2 small plecs and 2 wood shrimp.

Roll up to now and im down to 9 Neons and 1 plec but now have about 30 baby Kribensis and the loverly mum and dad have decided its war in the tank for anyone slimming near the babys.

Welcome to the Forum.

:welcome:

Hope you will enjoy the forum and hope it will prove to be helpful for you.

I am not sure what you are asking in your post, whether its just an introductionary type of greetung or if you require some assistance?

Can see that you have lost a few fish up to today, unsure if this is just down to the kribs being territiorial and protective of their fry. Or is it down to a uncycled tank or water parameter issue?

The two shrimps you had, bamboo/wood shrimps, are they still in this tank?
These can prove to be hard to feed, especially if wild caught. Otherwise they are good for signalling if water parameters aee good or not since they are usually far more sensitive to any changes in water parameters and will be the first to react by looking for spaces to esacepe to or in worst case scenario to escape fromt the tank altogether.

Would recommend you ensure the tank is covered to help ensure your fish do no jump out or the shrimp attempting a Houdini moment....

Btw plecs usually are big fish fully grown, between 1 to 2 feet is pretty normal for common plecs, but of course this is dependant on the specie you have. Is your tank big enough to accomodate a fully grown common plec?

hello and

Like Ch4rlie I'm not sure if you are requiring some help ... perhaps it's a query about the Kribs? The behaviour is normal for cichlids. All cichlids will defend their young aggressively and this is what you will be seeing - nothing to be concerned about.

Regarding the neons - again, it's sad but also normal these days for these fish to die for no real reason. They are another species of fish that are not as hardy as they used to be. I had a group of black neons myself and I found them to be fairly weak. Over a period of 3 years my group of 10 began to reduce quite rapidly and I never did work out what was killing them. I'd just glance into my tank to another dead neon

The plec - agreeing with Ch4rlie - do you know what type of plec it is? The bristlenose plec (often labelled as Ancistrus catfish in shops) attains about 6 inches but the common can grow into a real tank buster - best avoided unless you can accommodate a tank of 7 or 8ft long!

Sorry for the way I worded it, wasn't after info per say just giving people an idea of how I started and where I am now.

The plecs I have are the Bristlenose Plecs and was told they wouldn't exceed around 3 inches at most. The 2 Wood Shrimp tend to hide behind the water input pipe during the day and don't move much but when I have to to turn the lights on in a morning they have moved around but soon go back to the corner.

I assume it is the Kribs fighting them off and they tend too lose the fight, I always know which side of the tank the kribs are now due to the neons being at the other end so they are clearly scared of them.

Anyway thanks for the welcome and thanks for the info. Im sure i'll get around to asking lots of questions shortly.

glad to hear that plec is a BN, he/she will grow to around 5-6 inches ... I think the females can be a little smaller than the males but definitely bigger than 3 inches. They also get wide aswell as long and will need something to hide under really. My boy has hollowed out all the sand under my bogwood with his tail and that's where he lives. Every so often I'll see a cloud of sand and snail shells flying and he's 'sweeping out' his hovel (as I call it)

if you have a look here http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?/topic/441281-nicks-veggie-list/  there's a really useful list of all the veggie's that BN's can eat :)
