I am used to having gouramis and barbs but i recently adopted a clown knife fish and would like adice on how to care for it as its a stunning fish i cant stop watching it. so tips on habitat, feeding and general care would be much appreciated. also does anyone know of any clubs in hertfordshire?

Well a large, open, dim lit tank is the obvious requirement, Clown knifes will fairly easily hit 24" in captivity and have a maximum adult size of 48" (yep 4 foot)

this is definitely a case of "Research before you buy!!!"

you need a MASSIVE tank for these

unless you already have a 7-8 foot long tank set aside JUST for this fish, take it back now while it still has a chance to be rehomed.

this is an unfortunate case where the fish store misleads their customer just to make a profit - - they know that 1 of 3 things will happen


1. you will see its growth and buy a bigger tank
2. you will have to return it when it gets too big for minimal or no refund once you get past their "return period"
3. it will die and you will buy another fish (either same or different species) to replace it.

i rescued this fish rather than buying it and plan to get a large tank to house it cause it would be a shame to let it go

are you going to have the funds to buy a 7-8 foot tank for one fish? if not I suggest you take it to an accepting fish store who can accommodate it properly until someone who can set this fish up properly can buy it.
