Hi all,
I'm pretty new to keeping aquariums despite having a pond in my back garden, studying marine biology, been an angler for a very long time, and mad keen on fish, fishing and related matters.

I started off a few month ago with a small 30litre cube tank, and ended up just stocking it and stocking it. I have since bought a rio juwel 125 (2nd hand) had it running for a month without any fish in (just planted and water changed from my over stocked 30litre every day to give it some benificial bacteria, nitrates and ammonia to kick start the cycling.

This week i have transfered my fish in dribs and drabs, and so thats where it stands :) i dont want to go blabbing on about what fish i have ect for an introduction, but i am from South Shields, near Newcastle, UK... it would be interesting/helpfull to find out any people local.

Thanks, Ryan

Welcome to the forum. There's nothing boring about telling us your stocking!

Cool, good to hear Josh, I have a compulsive fishing habit like :p Where do you get your supplies from, have you been to tynedale aquatics? i have seen it online and meaning to go up when i need something, but to LFS in shields are very good, very healthy and alot of variety in one, and higher quality in the other. So have not had a need yet.

ha ha, ok, in my 125litre i have 7x zebra danios, 3 platys (2F, 1M), 5 neon tetras, 2 female dwarf gouramis, 1 male red dwarf gouramis... intend to add 6 more neon tetra this week, and in weeks to come add some kuli loachs, pygmy corys and some sort of plec... numbers not really confirmed and might not add them all see how much space their seems.

in my 30litre i have 4 cherry shrimp, 2 hong kong plecs and a tiny kuli loach... planning on getting a male betta and 6 harliquin rasb's, maybes try breeding in time, get a couple females if they will healthily fit, or put them in the larger tank until they display signs... but i'm new to this so will probs have alot of mistakes to make... so far only 2 deaths from jumping fish :) had a slight sign of white spot when i 1st set the tank up, but that went in 2 days without adding any treatments or chemicals.

Both are heavily planted with an oxygen plant species... Elodea, and Ambulia. Also a broad leafy plant which i have no idea what that is, i just harvested it from my pond, it seems very rubust, fragments and regrows well, roots up well, easy to trim and bush out.

I'll get photos on eventually. :)

Thanks for the intrest

my lfs is tynevalley aquatics, and i sort of have a compulsive shooting people habit (not in I want to kill them way) but tynevalley has good quality aswell every tank is individuely filtered and always have a huge variety of fish in, I used to go to pets 4 homes but not anymore for fish as there are always dead ones so all i get from there is plants as there always good and i've never had snails.

is that the pets at home near the metro centre? I only popped in once, and was suprised at their marine selection. I might have a drive over to tynevalley next week some time. when i have more of an idea what i exactly want, otherwise i'll end up walking out with 2 of most what they stock lol.

As for plants i just got them from my pond and they have thrived. Just the platys enjoy demolishing the elodea. Suppose its what it is in their for. I have however got snails, but quite like them, keep the algae down on the glass, and the gouramis like to eat the babys as soon as that have hatched from the gel like groups... they are on them.

yea the one beside the metro centre is quite big the whole top floor is basically fish, the new one in kingston park has a nice selection of tropical and coldwater but does not have any marine, and for tynevally if you know what you want and you ring up and they dont have it in stock, they will order some in for you, as am planning on getting some dwarf our honey gouramis this week sometime and a brisslenose plec a few weeks later to clean my glass when i have alot of algea on it as I cleaned it all off when I had goldies I also need to get some driftwood for the plec to have abit of a munch on , gonna make it suckered so I can stick it to the glass and clean underheath it easy.
