Hey All,

Rob here from Basingstoke, Hampshire. Got into keeping fishes from my friend. Managed to get a tank (picutres below) off Ebay (RIO 180); with filter (Eheim 2217) and few bits and bobs for one hundred pounds so not a bad deal. Went down to my local fish shop and start to get things up and going, couldn't wait to get the fish in there, but my friend told me about the cycle etc. Finally there and got what feels like 100000 snails and 6 Golden Platies. Snails I'm not sure what type. I'm guessing they are from the wood I got from the local fish shop. But currently they ain't munching all my plants so fingers cross they will be nice snails smile.gif.

*From this post it's around 5 weeks old*

I'm sure you'll be here from me more often with a few noobie questions as my goal after getting the basic sorted is a nice planted tank with a grassy effect at the bottom. Currently have no Co2 system which I will be getting in two week or so, any advice on DIY Co2 system or just go for a complete system would be helpful. My mate gave me upgraded lights to enchance the colours and plant growth.

Pictures off my phone so not the greatish quailty.

Welcome to the forums! A word of advice, the plants in the next to last pic appear to be a type of dracaena a non-aquatic plant commonly sold as aquatic at aquarium shops. It will eventually rot and begin to foul your water. Other than that, the tank looks beautiful...good luck!

Cheers for the reply and advice :)
I will keep a close eye on the plants and hopefully they aint to bad, but if so then I'll get them out asap and change it around.

Thanks again :)

Little happy this morning, hopefully all goes well, I have a baby platie in my tank; Friend told me this is a good sign for my water aswell. I'm guessing it was during the night, so I'm not sure how many was eaten etc. But hopefully it makes etc. Whats a good stage (size) will it be for it to be safe?

Thanks again,

Rob
