'nother hermit thread, sorry lol. I'm having some hermit species confusion yet again...trying to figure out how big my largest "dwarf zebra" will get...or if he's something different. The others I had, which I had thought were Calcinus laevimanus, were inhabiting 1/2" shells and never grew much, while this one out-stripped them several times in size and now inhabits a 2" shell with a 1/2" big claw (from the last joint before the "thumb" part, not the full appendage). He's been feeding almost exclusively off vermetid snails, which none of my other hermits have been able to eat, and has done my fingers a few injuries with the big nipper when I've tried to take him out to have a better look and get a picture.
I don't know what the max. size references actually refer to measurement-wise on dwarf zebra hermit size quotes...would a Calcinus laevimanus likely grow larger than having a 1/2" large claw, or do I have a completely wrong ID with a crab that's already that size?
Right now the big meanie shows no signs of slowing down in growth, so I'm wondering whether I need to revamp my 5 gallon with him as the sole inhabitant. If he won't get much bigger then all be fine, and I'd kind of like to keep him in the 12g he's in right now because he's doing so well in there...but a few more months at the current growth rate and I'm not sure I'd trust him with some of the other critters in the 12g.
