Here are some shots just after cutting it back this week...

Heres a pic of the guard dog making sure no one is fighting.. ;)
Is that a CO2 tank, or what?!! heh, i stole my 20 pound tank from my beer taps while i was refilling my 5 pounder :)

Looks beautiful, well done, walt haven't you been fishkeeping a very long time.

Yeah, nice tank. Whats CO2 for? Just airation? I know most people use it in planted tanks, so i assume it helps plants thrive?

Hey Wilder - I kept 5 tanks(1 salt, 4 fresh... 10, 15, 29, 55, and 135) for about 8 years... then sold all my tanks and quit for a decade.. ;) Then just started back up with this 50 gallon tank back in July...
The neighbor was moving and said "hey, you want my tank?"...
Too tempting... now il prob end up with 5 tanks again.. LOL!

Hey Ethos - Yup, the CO2 is for the plants... ya really need it when running over 2 watts per gallon of light(im running 3.4).... without it, and dosing ferts, algae would take ahold real quick...
And the plants do indeed love it... ive had my sword start a new shooting in the morning and by the time i got home from work, its at the surface.. B)

Looking fabulous Walt !

though if I may .....(in my humble and personal opinion) I think it would look even better if you moved the Amazon and the lilly more into the backgroud.

Ya bloozoo2.. ive thought about that too.. they are indeed getting ..ahh... large ;)
kris-b- Thanks!!.... My old 29 gallon tank was setup with this look, and i always liked it... so here i go again :)

Id like to get a 90 or 120 gallon tank again..... the wife says not until the next house... fair enough.. B)

That is one beautifal tank you've created there. I'm planning on planting my tank but I'm still to buy all the bits. Looking at your tank makes me want to hurry up and get mine started.

Are you just using pea gravel as a substrate or do you have a layer or two of something else underneath?

Fabulous job.

How much did the Co2 unit cost?
I saw a unit for $499! Do people actually spend that on aquarium addtion?

Hey consp,

An ideal substrate would use something like laterite then covered with a regular substrate.. no undergravel filter...

Im just using basic pea gravel.

Hey Ethos..
CO2 can indeed cost!
Its cheaper here in the US though...
i already had a 5 pound tank cause i also brew beer :)

But it can be setup for much less then 400... it can be done for prob 100-150... Hunt down a tank from a welding shop($30), then pick up a regulator for $50, then needle valve($10) then diffuser ($15), silicon tubing($5)....

I'm planning on doing a layer of sand, a layer of aquatic compost with fert in and a layer of pea gravel on top. Its great how yours are doing just in the gravel.

Nice tank. CO2 is that oxygen tank on the right hand side of the tank right? Also why do you have a pic of a plane ticket on your sig?
