Here We Go Again

Have been a member of the seahorse.org fourm for about 2 months now. Doning all my resurch from there and other sourses. As for flow I've uprated the pump to a 1200lph because with 2`vertical head loss 2`horizontal travel 4 90 elbows adn a ball valve will reduce the flow to 200lph. In a 76l thats x2.6 turnover so I'll need a little more flow. Might continue to use the Fluval 1 thats in there at the moment with carbon in.

sounds like a really interesting project, the bloke at our lfs breeds seahorses, always have a nosey at them when we go in, they're awesome. Maybe in a few years when we've learnt to cope witha reef we'll move on to seahorses, just a little advanced for us at the moment though!!

Well talks are taking place but it could end up with this.

As you can see its still in the planning stage but watch this space.

Took your advise ski and insted of messing around with 'hooking' both tanks together I'm going to get this build and have it in the corner. The flat 3 sides will be against a wall only the diaganal pain will be viewable. I will keep the sump but do away with the dsb in the middle chamber and get a Ca reacter in there. The skimmer will be changed to a V2 800. the 24" tank I will use as a top off tank. and my current 3' er will be the new DSB fuge tank. all in all sout have about 150 UKG (180 US)

All of this is here say at the mo still trying to get the girlfriend approval. But she has taken to sneeking down at about 3 in the morning to look at the "night life" in the tank.

So should be all go go go by Christmas.

Anyone up for helping me get the tank up the stairs??

Awesome Matt. I have two questions. Are you going to build it yourself (tank and all) or are you hiring a professional? And if you are doing it yourself, how are you going to deal with the angled cuts on the glass? Theres going to be a tremendous amount of pressure on those seals, especially the one that is beyond 90 degrees, just curious if you'd thought about that.

The tank is being made by a compay but I'm making the stand. Waiting for some prices.

demonmagus> do you meen thereef tank of the Seahorse (frag) tank.

Nice, I always like to let the pros work with the glass too :hey:

Nice to see another seahorse keeper here, or soon to be seahorse keeper.

Some advice, don't link it to your reef, it should be fine on it's own. Most species like a temp between 75-79 degrees Fahrenheit depending on what your getting. Some things like Capensis, etc. of course need lower temps. Erectus, Kuda, Reidi, (the more common types) are in the 78 degrees range. Make sure your temps are stable at all times; too big of a drastic change may let diseases spread rapidly. Gas bubble disease, and large white bumps are the two that i've seen lately come in in tanks with big temp swings.

As for the current, generally, lower currents are the norm. In my tank though, I have an xp1 shooting a direct flow of water on one half of my tank. My seahorse actually seems like like sitting in teh current occasionally. If he needs to rest, he just goes to the other side for a short time. The current is still more than an average HOB filter on that side, but he seems okay with it. Try the seahorses out, and if they don't like it, try adjusting.

What species are you getting? Captive bred or wild caught (hopefully captive bred)?

Nice to see things are coming along but remember, don't do this too fast! Lol I just read through a majority of these posts so hopefully I read it right :p.

Sorry, I edited it :p. was in a hurry and didn't look it over. I meant to say captive bred.
