He already become a father so he is a sweet male. One thing is that he don't like to blow bubble one. Basically when he mate first and then build nest bubbles.

I let them in a tank for one or two weeks before I let them mate in a breeder tank. She is ready to go but I am out of tank. LOL So have to wait. :)

If a fish has a characteristic that could cause defects later in life...should that fish be bred whenever. or should you wait until you find out if such faults could arise and cause the fish problems(ie blindness)?

Could such genetic make-up be passed on to offspring, who could also come up with the same defects later in life?

I know when I bred Doberman's, I had to make sure I had genetic testing (hips, elbows, eyes, heart, blood) done for all the genetic problems that are known to arise..before I bred (AKC requires you wait until 18 months..but it is generally recognized that you wait until after 2 years..so you can test hips/elbows and have as close to accurate test results as possible). And I had to give out a copy of the parents health certificate with each puppy, or if I had not had the testing done..I had to give a refund guarentee for a certain time frame(I just had the tests done..lots easier in the long run).

Do people do this with fish? Should they do this with fish?

I've been wondering this for a while now...since so many people seem to jump right into breeding bettas(not saying anyone is or is not doing that, or that anyone should not breed betta's)...I just saw an opportunity to ask a question I've been pondering (since I had guidelines to go by when breeding dogs..cats are the same way btw).

No offense meant to anyone or towards anyone. Just my curiosity getting the better of me :D .

Wiating two years to breed bettas is sort of impossible as that the life expectancy not much more, although i have had one a few years ago and he was 5yrs old.. you could start from a mum and dad and then breed on and on if you wanted to give a birth certificate, they do have to supply a health certificate if sending from another country because of infection to you own species of fish , it knowing who the parent were, with lfs bettas and your petsmart one i think that would be impossible to find out as they tend to use many diffrent breeders who just through them together and sell all the offspring reguardless of condition....so it is very diffrent from cats and dogs, as it impossible to really test a fish for anything unless you own a vet practice .... -_- B)

no no...that's not what I am saying..that was an example.

I mean...if you see a defect that could cause a fish problems later on down the road..should you breed it?

That is my question lol. Sorry I should have been more clear (I've had alot of caffine today :D)

I know you can't wait 2 years like with dogs and cats...as cats and dogs can live 15+ years.
