I'm currently in the process of planning a nano set up (35 litres) I know HC loves CO2 and isn't too fussed about light, but I know at least 1-2 wpg is favoured, I was just wondering, do you think it would grow with Gluturaldehyde (liquid carbon) instead of CO2, understandably the growth wouldn't be as fast, but I was just wondering whether it was feasible, otherwise what other low growing plants could I use?

cheers

You are right in thinking that good CO2 is the key for HC. It is one of those plants a lot of people struggle to grow, often blaming not enough light, when the reality is that it is often carbon limited.

You may well succeed with a liquid carbon source, but others have failed with pressurised CO2. Give it a go, making sure you plant it in small clumps, or individual plantlets, if you have the patience.

Failing this, Marsilea sp are fairly resilient.

Dave.

I struggled with HC and was using Easycarbo, it was sprouting young plants, but as fast as it was it was getting covered in BBA. Such a shame because Hc is a great plant.

Lighting must be too high.
HC also looooves NO3 :)

I managed to get it going in a Rio 125 with Gluturaldehyde once, growth was very slow, and lighting was very intense, but the photoperiod was short.
